New Acropolis Toronto

The Geometry of Light Photography Exhibit

"The light is central to Pierre Poulain. Understood as the epitome of form and, therefore, each time he fires the shutter Israeli photographer is set in what he calls the "geometry" of enlightenment; hence the title of the exhibition.

The images displayed show twelve places in the world. France, Spain, Czech Republic, England, Israel, India, Switzerland, Brazil and Peru are some of the places portrayed by Poulain during his pilgrimage.

Poulain does not see the pictures as the goal of his work, but only as tools that allow you to convey "the invisible through the visible." That element of the disembodied speaker may be a feeling or an idea, essential aspects of life, but, as the writer Antoine de Saint-Exupéry reminds us, are invisible to the eye.

According to Poulain, circle, triangle and other geometric shapes are archetypal manifestations of more abstract and intangible realities, such as numbers. "A good photograph is an image where the geometry is visible", notes the photographer, clarifying that it is not just geometry. "What we are seeing are situations of daily life, he says, something present but not necessarily visible."
