World Philosophy Day

On Friday, November 20th, 2009 New Acropolis Toronto hosted a workshop on the theme 'Avoid the S.A.D.' Virus: 'Stress, Anxiety, Depression.' World Philosophy DayIt was an enriching evening, characterized by heart-to-heart interactions on the essential questions of life: what is the human being? Who am I? Why is there suffering? Where are we going?

World Philosophy Day, as designated by UNESCO, is celebrated to highlight the importance of constant reflection in life, to learn from our daily experiences so that we can grow individually and build more cooperative societies.

Zen Humour"Zen Humour" skits presented by members of New Acropolis conveyed profound messages in a fun way, setting the stage for thoughtful discussions about the challenges we face, particularly youth, living in a materialistic society: boredom, fear, loneliness, anxiety, confusion, and conformism. Participants took the opportunity to reflect on the meaning of life and the importance of having a dream in life that gives purpose. Philosophy, as the application of wisdom in daily life, is a natural remedy in times of feeling stressed, anxious, and depressed; it offers a transcendent and humanistic vision of life and teaches us how we can each be active agents of transformation in our communities.
